I’ve only had the “Dunhill” version of RY and it was rough-edged and unpleasant when fresh. After a few months in a mason jar it had settled down to smokability. Not something I’d cellar, but not horrible.

@Reggie : Have you seen the stuff I smoke? The word 'Refined' and my tastes in tobacco do not usually appear in the same sentence!
I have read enough of your posts to know that you do impart some wisdom and experience to the forum. I have learned so much on here just do to the geographical differences and the availability of various tobaccos around the world. Your posts have caught my eye several times. I will try almost any pipe tobacco and my cellar is very diverse. This leads me to feel that my palate is very unrefined.

Like many, I was initially repulsed by my first couple bowls of Royal Yacht. It was overly strong and harsh to me. I jarred up a tin and forgot about it for several years. On a whim one morning I pulled the jar out and loaded up a bowl and I enjoyed it much more. For a stint that initial tin turned into my daily morning wake up smoke. I ended up picking up a bunch of Dunhill RYs and have more than enough. It's not a favorite of mine, but I'm happy to have it in my cellar.
