So I've come to the realization recently that add much add I thought I liked some pipes I have, I never reach for them.... Ever. It's seems such a waste for them to sit around not being used at least every once in a while. Really don't want to go through the hassle of listing them anywhere. I would much rather just box them up and send them to someone that buys estate pipes and see what kind of offer they made me. Are there places/people that do this or an I stick with them until I put in some leg work. If this isn't entirely a fantasy and you've had experience with doing it, how did it pan out for you? Did it seem fair? I've never sold not traded a pipe so this is kind of new, but sad, territory for me because I can remember just how excited I was after each purchase and then their arrival and I want others to feel the same way about them.

I had once thought that they would make great spoons for soup, but nah... you never fully get the pipe taste out of them, and they get clogged easily if you try to use them as straws. Little pieces can easily clog them and make them useless. They are especially frustrating to try to use to eat chili. :puffy:

I recently had a total freak out "I hate this goddam pipe" moment. I literally got a box and put the pipe in it... ship it.... anywhere. Burma. Whatever. Then I thought "I never smoke THIS one either."
"And I hate the stem on THIS one."
About a dozen pipes later I was down to pipes I liked and use. Sent 'em all to smokingpipes. Got 2 castellos instead. Now I only have pipes I use, I'm down to like... 8 or so. Best thing ever.

That settles it, they're getting boxed up and shipped out Monday to smokingpipes. That seems the easiest and I really don't have anything worth much so I don't think it would really be worth messing with the consignment, but hopefully I can muster one pipe in exchange for all of them

I've culled my pipes twice, packed up the less-smoked pipes to smokingpipes.com and accepted the in-store credit to get a pipe I smoke regularly. They will pay cash, but at a lower amount. You could make more, maybe, on ebay or offering them elsewhere online, but also you would spend time and labor and might not come out ahead. Iwan Ries, pipestud, and others will also do this. It's a way to upgrade your pipes slightly, cull the herd a little, and satisfy PAD without too much expense.

There is a lot of coming and going in my little pipe accumulation but thankfully I am my own "Pipestud" so they are refurbished and are listed on Ebay.

I only purchase pipes which meet my criteria. If I get it home and find it to be not a great smoker, I toss it. I will not shove poor smoking pipes off on others to suffer with.
Never gave a thought to reassigning them to another purpose. Interesting.

Get where you're coming from, I wouldn't hand out any piss poor pipes as gifts but those and even the clapped out ones have something left to give. They might not be able to get back in service but they could sacrifice something for another pipe or turn into a tamper, part of stand.... I hate garbage, to me recycling is about keeping things going, not sorting bottles and other crap that just end up in a landfill.

I'm with Warren on this one. Had it not been for a friend offering some tobacco I loved a few years ago, a Dunhill I had would have gone in the trash as well.
