The round, screw type tins seem to keep blends in good condition for a few weeks. I usually throw in a button when there is room in the rectangular tins if the blend is getting too dry. However, I usually go through a tin in a week or so and have not experienced many problems with "freshness." I rarely have more than three or four open tins at any one time either as I do not experiment as much as some.

"I am intrigued by the idea of metalized bags. I did find a source for them at $.12 apiece but in 1000 quantities. Any one find a better source. Or, anyone want to split up an order?"
Try these bags:

Not cheap but very high quality and in reasonable amounts.

Yea just throw them in some ball jars and label them. Then you wont have to worry.

Some of you just want to tempt fate.

But if you can't taste the difference, is it significant?

There are all manner of things in the pipe world that are outside what I can taste, mostly concerning the difference between pipes.

The same tobacco in different pipes is slightly different.

The taste of the container itself, briar tasting like briar, cobs tasting like corn.

Etc.
For me, if the pipe has a good draw and a comfortable bit and the tobacco tastes reasonably like that tobacco, I'm good. If it doesn't I can attribute the difference to my palate as all tobaccos taste off.

Just in case the Baccy is electro-staticly sensitive. These are great bags to use.

I buy in bulk also and put the majority of it in mason jars like you guys and then fill a few small 50g tins and pouches and then get to smoking with most of my baccy stored. I have 3 large bulk tins yet to open and store but I have to wait for next week to buy more mason jars. I only had 12 x 8oz jars and they are all jam packed tightly, I found by squashing it down I could fit about 6-7oz in each jar. Might buy some larger jars for the 3 unopened tins I have.

...also, next time you feel a bout of TAD coming on, try mixing blends for something new, rather than ordering

more. I find less complex blends works best, or adding a little black Cavendish or putting Virginia and burley

together works nicely, but sometimes two more elaborate blends will go well. This may hold off TAD for a few

weeks if you have strong resolve.

I have a tin of Nightcap I bought (and opened) last year and it is still doing fine. It has been my little experiment. The tobacco hasn't dried out (despite being in dry Colorado). It has been kept in the cabinet where the usual temp is between 65-70 year round. I've dipped into it twice since last year and the latakia has been mellowed and the VAs have grown a tad sweeter.
Is this the preferred method? No.
But this is just one mans experience and I would not recommend doing it with everything you have bought.
