EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9)

I’ve always been curious to hear what non-Americans think about Americans in general? What stereotypes do you have about Americans? No offense taken, it’s all good!

Hahahahaha, oh God. Sometimes I’m thankful many people don’t associate Alaska with the U.S. This thread may be one of those moments, hahaha.

When I’m on vacation and meet people from out of the country, I’m often told “Yeah, but you guys aren’t REALLY part of the U.S.”

It makes one feel a strange and unique mix of pride and offense. But I’ll admit, these days it’s mostly pride.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d die for my country if called to do so, but I’ll be goddamned if I’d ever live in the lower 48.

Well, if Python is to be believed, you should all ignore this unless you agree.

If a thread about semiautomatic weapons is ok, this should be ok too.

I'll start with a stereotype. " you can have my ... when you take it from my cold dead hands"

Wyoming here and feeling the same. I often have to explain to people from other countries that I'm from Wyoming and we're not the same as the big city USA.

There is more than one stereotype, the stereotype depends upon the region after all America is a big place. TBH stereotypes are rarely flattering

One general stereotype would be an obese, gun obsessed, baseball hat wearing, flag waving person with a sense of self importance and entitlement.

EDIT - Having reread the OP I figured it best to say the views above aren't my own

Since I am British and have lived among you guys for 25+ years I would have to say that on the whole Americans are pretty generous, kind hearted people. Unlike the Europeans they tend to 'do stuff' together. Forums, Clubs, be it for Motorcycles, pipes or guns tend to have very clear group identities in a way that is considered a little odd to Europeans. In Finland people are assumed to be not particularly sociable until your third Koskenkorva and my Father in law once crossed over the road to avoid speaking to his brother! I find the people from the deep South to be very interesting since they are descended from Scottish settlers and it is reflected in the dialect. The great thing about America is it has more flavors than Heinz 67 or whatever it says on the bottle!

There are so many stereotypes associated with the U.S. Many of them can be found in movies. John Wayne, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Robert De Niro, Roseanne Barr etc all play roles that are somehow stereotypical american.
Dolly Parton could not exist in my country. Neither could the Tiger King guy or Snoop Dogg. It's an interesting subject.

No. The U.S is the only modern nation that has had as its President an actor (Reagan) and Tango Man (Trump) and whilst I really don't do politics its great to see a Head of State who isn't a professional politician. It just goes to show that in the US anyone can become the President. As for the election I do agree they do have a slight Roman flavor about them but it sure beats the rubber stamp that is the EU Parliament.

Exactly. What most people in other countries "know" about U.S. citizens is what they see in movies and on tv shows that are exported overseas. Then on top of that is the daily circus featuring politics and the news media.

In other words, stereotypes are based on perceptions from entertainment and are not really factual.

Counting down until the lockout.
I don't know how to talk politics with civility, without which no one can hear me.
