"I need to find another Flashman book. It'd be just the ticket for these troubled times."

Mingc, this is no time for reading thrashing stories, much better off with a book of the 'improving' kind like "How I Beat The Plague" by Ivor 'No Spots' Goodbody or "How To Pull A Wench" by Cleanas A. Whistle. ?

Regards,

Jay.?

There are so many blends that have sadly been consigned to the dustbin of history.
I had a quick browse of old tins on ebay and just some of the names were:

Players Whiskey Flake
Loewe 58 Smoking Mixture
Mullins & Westley Ltd Crusting Cake (love the sound of that one)
WILL'S Legation
OGDEN'S Tom Long
The “Kings Head”
Tam O'shanter

BTW I agree with what condorlover said about Philby. Wouldn't surprise me if the treacherous bastard smoked Clan ?.

Surely a Gentleman would smoke his own personal blend custom made for him by his preferred tobacconist? Only us oiks in the working and middle classes would have smoked pre-blended branded tobacco products.
Whilst that is doubtless true, many of the right sort, sadly, shared the same bestial taste as you filthy stinking lot with your filthy stinking calloused fingers. How else to explain Three Nuns and Capstan available for purchase on the upper decks of the Titanic.

Philby turned in college and went on spying for the USSR for decades. He was very good at it.
