My first major league game was the White Sox at the old, now demolished, Comiskey Park, when my dad got choice third base seats a few rows up from ground level, very cool. But my second pro game was with my uncle and my cousin (I was ten years old) watching the Cleveland Indians at home win against I can't remember who. This is Cleveland's last year of being The Indians. The name floated most predominantly is The Spiders, I'm not sure why. I'm trying to conjure up an Ohio related name, that isn't already in use by a sports team, that is better. I'm fascinated by spiders, but I can't say it churns up any feelings of enthusiasm or team loyalty for me. Cleveland is on Lake Erie. Any ideas? Sturgeon? Muskies? Lampreys? Are you getting any vibes here?

I’ve read about the name Spiders, as well as Buckeyes, Rocks/Rockers, Lake/Lakers, Naps, Guardians, Municipals, etc. Didn’t Thomas Edison grow up nearby? How about something electric related, like Voltage, Direct Currents... ? Whatever the name, hopefully it will not take as long as the Washington Football Team...

The Cleveland Coho? The Cleveland Gulls? The Cleveland Perch? The Cleveland Rollers (like waves at the lake shore), The Cleveland Seich (a wave caused by a seismic disturbance), The Cleveland Dealers (after their newspaper), The Cleveland Glaciers (that cut the Great Lakes), the Cleveland Moraines (the ravines near the shore). The team needs to put me on contract. Maybe the Cleveland Rock and Rolls, for the hall of fame.

Yeah, Seich wouldn't work either; people would never guess what it means, and it would never be pronounced twice the same way. But that's brainstorming; you have to shovel a lot of manure to find the cupcake.

The Chamber of Commerce would have a seizure, but the Cleveland Burning Rivers isn't all bad. The Cleveland Rollers could denote both the waves breaking at the lakeshore and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I thought the Indians was a sort of tribute, but not having any kin in any of the nations, other than by marriage, I can't vote on that.

They could keep a native theme without being offensive to the thin skins. Spirit Walkers, Pathfinders, Spears, etc.
