I recently bought a "VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER & BRIAR ESTATE PIPE London 1893 MEERSCHAUM INSERT" on fleabay. After some extensive cleaning, I mostly got the ghosts to leave and the stem removed, and it's now smokable again (and smokes very well - nice and dry). But I don't know what to call the thing. What would this pipe shape be called?20211202_125049.jpg

How about a photo from the top? Does the meerschaum insert come out? Is there a chamber below like a calabash?

Nice pipe and great restoration work! Is that an amber stem? Wow, great find!

There is a technical name for these pipes. They usually show up made of meerschaum with a rather odd shaped case on eBay. The idea is not so dissimilar to a calabash and I was the proud owner of one once gifted to me by a chum who is now long dead.

In the 1895 Harrods catalogue the shape is a "Captain Warren"

There's a more recent example at Smoking Metal

I'm afraid I have no information on Captain Warren himself.
