OK, so having a tooth extracted tomorrow and did some online research. I consistently read that one should not drink coffee or smoke for several days thereafter. Haven't gone a day without a pipe for 45 years and probably even longer without coffee. That's heinous.

It's a strange situation, yes. We all go through something similar at some point. It's only a few days. You can do other things, for example, Buy more tobacco, pipe cleaning and general maintenance. I wish you a speedy recovery................

It's no fun, but you'll do fine. Also, don't use straws to drink anything; the suction might cause bleeding. Afterward you wonder how your gum will ever heal, but as an oral surgeon told me, your gums remodel their architecture to accommodate the extraction. Ice is your friend. Soft food, soups, yogurt, even milk shakes but not through a straw.

It's perfectly ok to drink cold brew or iced coffee after a tooth extraction.
As for the smoking part, I think I myself would be wary, not because of what health experts say, but because it would seem common sense not to, at least for a day or so.

I think nicotine makes the capillaries restrict. Those are the smallest blood vessels that are important in healing.

Did both after a total extraction surgery, no issues.
it's more under the category of severity of what could go wrong then how easily it could go wrong. For one thing the proximity to the brain is not insignificant especially when you consider the degree of innervation.
That said I also smoked and drank coffee after tooth extraction, however that doesn't make it a good idea.

not sure what you're saying. Or what aspects in particular you're commenting on. Sorry.
Just because one doctor or medical practitioner tells you something or gives you a diagnosis, doesn't mean that three more will not give you as many opposing results.

Look at the bright side: your tobacco will age a bit more, your pipes will dry longer and after that you can indulge all stuff your not allowed in triple. Nicotine wise it might suck, but you'll get over it.
