Bowie - Not hits and hits. On certain songs I'd say there is a heroic note to his voice, though he has many other vocal effects. He talks about how shy the was earlier in life and that certainly shows, as does his mastery of the music and stage presence later. I'd say his music has much more oddity, which is usually arresting, than most other musicians. He was such a handsome man, which was probably significant to his success.
