What Makes a Good Club?

I believe that it would help if you start off the club with someone who is an individual who can help keep the discussion(s) moving along, without becoming bogged-down in topics which are hot-button topics. When there are strong opinions flying around, there will certainly be those who do not return.

There are a couple of things that I really appreciate about our Houston club.

1) we have a tradition that everybody places the tobacco they brought on the table. Anybody is allowed to try anything on the table. Of course, we ask the owner’s permission, but nobody says no. I rarely smoke my own blends.

2). We have young guys and old guys. Old guys are a great resource for the young ones. Sometimes they bring some well-aged stuff. Young guys are often more aware of the latest blends.

The first rule of Pipe Club is: You do not talk about Pipe Club.

The second rule of Pipe Club is: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT PIPE CLUB!

Third rule of Pipe Club: Someone yells "Stop!", goes limp, taps out, the pipe is over.

Fourth rule: Only two guys to a pipe.

Fifth rule: One pipe at a time, fellas.

Sixth rule: No shirts, no shoes.

Seventh rule: Pipes will go on as long as they have to.

And the eighth and final rule: If this is your first night at Pipe Club, you have to pipe.
