These days it is taking care of the kiddos. Perhaps a couple of hikes or saunters if the weather is nice. Or maybe a bit of swimming (my older son loves water). Lots of nappies er.. diapers, to change and all that fun stuff. Usually I get out early in the morning or in the early evening with the dogs for a saunter and pipe.
Oh, how things change.

My weekends tend to be about spending time with my family first (eating at a restaurant together Friday night is the one mainstay), taking care of the household business, and attending my daughter's sporting events. Then at night when things have settled down I can retire to my smoking room and do whatever I feel like doing. That almost always means smoking pipes accompanied by Netflix, a book, or a video game.
And whenever I can, I mix in a nap. I love my naps.

Oh, how things change.
You got that shit right. When I think about my old life, it's hard to imagine I survived for so long as a dim-witted tumbleweed going where the wind takes him, just wandering around eating cheese, burping, and farting, my course only dictated by whatever barrier I ran into next.
Now I read books in silly voices and constantly ponder life hacks for diaper haz mat management and feeding schedules, planning things as simple as a trip to the grocery store days in advance with lists and bullet points.
It sucks ass and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Lawrence Spivak, I remember watching him with my dad on Sunday mornings after Church!

My wife just retired, but not me, not for a while...

I'm up at 3:15 M-F and am work at 5:30 AM, so when weekend its, I'm ready! And that is SO CAL Traffic, but I miss most of it coming in at 5:00AM and getting home and leaving work at 3:00PM.

Am boring with my wife (41 years), sleep in till 5:30 AM, get up, take our two Mini Schnauzers out, then start on the yard, then around 11:00, I move into the house... Sunday, NOTHING!!!

The whole time, Pipe & Coffee, HEAVEN...

Been retired 5 months and I find it's easy to forget what day of the week it is as well as what day of the month it is. As I do whatever I want whenever I want, weekends are no different than weekdays.

I have Saturdays all to myself (the wife works and the teenager has his license, so always at work or with friends) and first thing is a lite breakfast with plenty of coffee and the New York Times. This time of year I’m also checking box scores and watching baseball highlights. Then there’s yard work and chores. After lunch, I take my Brittany gun dog Wilson on a walk through the woods if not too hot and smoke my pipe. After my walk I go into the work shed and take up where I left off on whatever boat I’m building (I like to build small wood boats by hand). I work till dark, stopping when the wife gets home. We make dinner and later retire to the den where she watches TV and I read. After my wife goes upstairs, I smoke a bowl and sip some fine booze before going to bed.

Sunday I’m at the mercy of my wife who leads me about town and state on all sorts of adventures where I dutifully hand over plastic or cash.
Come September my weekends are then geared toward preparing for hunting season; upland game, deer, turkey and squirrel using rifle, muzzleloader, and trad bow. I am gone during the season.
