What Is Your Single Most Favorite Thing About Smoking a Pipe?

Slowing down. Relaxation. The routine of packing, lighting, tamping, and breath. The aroma & taste. That occasional 'Perfect Bowl' when everything is just right. Like hitting the sweet spot driving a golf ball off the tee, or hitting a baseball pitch perfectly off your bat, in younger days.

It's tricky for me to single out a favourite thing because I just love smoking my pipes but if pushed, and if you would grant me a little leeway in my reply then I would say it's opening and trying a new tin of tobacco. I feel like I still learn something about tobacco with every new tin but there is something about the excitement I feel when ordering, opening, smelling and smoking a tin of something I have never tried. It really stirs a feeling in me that is akin to the excitement of Christmas morning as a small child and it's a feeling I had long since forgotten until I took up the pipe. As I get older I find it hard to find excitement in things so I enjoy it when I can.

Also, sometimes when I'm smoking a pipe, the pipe fairies will come out of hiding and sit on my shoulders where they also will smoke a pipe.

Is this while smoking one of your briars or some other kind of "pipe" ? :rofl:

Like Javan, all of the above, well almost all. It's the enjoyment of the taste while gazing at the birds flitting about. Enjoying the look of the pipe, the smell of the scent of the tobacco blend, the thought of not being at work, not doing anything at that moment other than enjoying the relaxation

Smoking in general is fun to me; pipe smoking is my favorite form of the activity, the most relaxing. I like my mind set when the pipe is going. I'm more about thinking things through than rushing to quick resolution. Still ...

What I love the most has changed since when I first started smoking

I used to love the ritual of picking my tobacco smelling it, loading my pipe, pouring a drink, turning on the tv and smoking.

Now I find that the best part of smoking a pipe is smoking a pipe. Many times just alone in the man cave, tv off, some music playing in the background and perhaps a cognac if the mood should strike me.

I think it’s the time spent thinking to myself that I appreciate the most. Weird huh?

Also, sometimes when I'm smoking a pipe, the pipe fairies will come out of hiding and sit on my shoulders where they also will smoke a pipe. They tell me stories of the fairy world, and the goings on there, and about fairy life in general. They'll tell jokes, talk about sports... Acorn Tackle Toss is a favorite of theirs, and humming bird racing. They also like to sing. Four of them are in a barbershop quartet together. You should hear them harmonize!

Briar of course. The pipe fairies sprinkle them with dust at night to make them smoke better.

Of course I am... but I might add, make sure you folks are cleaning those estate pipes very well before smoking. One can never be too careful! 8O
The pipe fairies are real, folks. You just don't see them because you refuse to believe... kinda like elves, and unicorns. They're there for those with eyes to see if you simply believe.
