I wasn't into straight stems either when I got into pipes In the early 1990's. The few pipe smokers I knew at the time mainly a couple older uncles smoked plain looking straight billiards. Of course as a young man I had to be different and got a bent. Could it be that straight stem pipes were just more common in the 50's 60's 70's? I notice a lot of the younger guys today are smoking bent shapes. That age old instinct to rebel?"When I first even thought of smoking a pipe I thought it was silly to even consider a straight pipe..."
Just curious, exactly what connotations did a straight pipe have?
