I guess Rhodesians have fallen from favor? I'm a Rhodesian guy no matter how you define them, as I prefer 1/4 bents with round shank/stems.

The CALABASH, man! Not one of those namby pamby imitation ones made out of wood, but the REAL THING made from a genuine Calabash Gourd! With a big frickin' honking giant meerschaum bowl.

I've gravitated to the classic shapes and slightly smaller bowls. A group 3 or 4 suits me.

I like having a longer straight stem lately with the smaller bowl so that it is easy to clench and a little farther from my face and eyes, giving me a better perspective when putting it to flame.

A nice light classic shape with a long thin stem that acts like a straw, that's the ticket!

@newbroom, I hear you and do enjoy my Chacom prince very much. It has a long and slightly bent stem with a - I'd call it - medium sized bowl. It's very light.
There doesn't seem to be many full bent fans among this thread. I do have a couple of bent pipes and each one gurgles on me including my Peterson Irish Second 303 system shape one.

After years of being obsessed with Hungarian jaw-hangers, I started having a "thang" for straight billiards and princes!!! Here is my latest PAD from spc's Rattray's at half-price sale:

Being a 9mm filter man, slenderish princes are hard to come by! But that's part of the adventure!

I am fairly surprised by the number of Zulu fans! I would have thought the canted forward bowl would be a turn off for most as it impairs the lighting of the tobacco due to visibility issues.

You make a good point about the bowl's forward cant making lighting a bit difficult but still, I find the overall shape of the zulu very elegant and sleek. Plus, the smoking experience from my collection of them has always been stellar.

Castello's 1/8 bent Canadian. In fact several different shapes from Castello with 1/8 bent stems have been all I've smoked for the last month.

jmatt, I have a few 1/4 bent Rhodesian and Bully's and they're wonderful. They aren't quite as clenchable as my old straight stemmed Linkman's Supreme Rhodesian, nor as light.

I smoke em a lot. If the button is just right, as it is on some but not on others, I can clench them without concern, but if the button is 'off' either way, not as easy to clench that bend. I've had em drop out once or twice.

Now, another shape I do like is a half bent...they're slightly more able to clench for me, and WHY should I be so concerned about clenching? Well, touch typing requires both of my hands.

Raise the pipe slightly above the arc of its curve, and the bowl is perfectly level and easy to light. I thought the same thing prior to owning one.

My two cents, most of the classic zulus cant the bowl a little but not enough to change the lighting angle, not really. The pipes I've seen with canting problems that have an effect are some cuttys and some horns, where you really don't have the top of the bowl in view when you are clenching the pipe to light it. I've owned a Sav 404 zulu for many years, and it is such that I have never even considered if it was too canted. It just isn't.

After seeing einstein with an apple shape I rushed out and got one. It's been my favorite pipe since.
