I wonder if there is anyone here who might know what this could be. I see this on a Japan merchant sire. This pipe is supposedly stamped with a shape number 207 and “Italy, Charatans Make London England Special.” But the pipe looks curiously old. Anyone know if this could be an early era pipe? Does it look to have all its original parts? Italy…That doesn’t sound good. IMG_6845.jpeg

If you look really close in the first picture, it looks like it has some kind of diamond logo on the shank.

Nooooo. I have three of them and none of them look anything like that. So many things are wrong with that pipe.
Thanks. I guess I’ll pass. I’m always panning for gold. It’s cheap but It doesn’t even have pictures of the stamping. I cannot find that shape number anywhere. Thanks!

Why would a Charatan pipe have "Italy" stamped on it?
Maybe he’s misreading it. Anyway, without a picture of the stamp, it’s silly. I feel silly to have posted this. This is a Japanese person who may just be mixed up. It really does just look like an old piece of junk.

99% sure that's a BBB logo..

There you go! That diamond. You’re right. I’ve mistranslated. He wrote some pipe names on there. What do you call that? Like, to for people who are interested in Charatan and others. But, yeah, BBB. Thanks! @bayareabriar too. I don’t see any record of this shape anywhere though. I wonder how old this is. I see he added another pic: it’s a BBB two star.

It is.
Why would a BBB have “Italy” stamped on it?
This is probably my misunderstanding. These are people who don't understand pipes writing all kinds of words like, "Charatan" and "Italy" in the post when these words aren't on the pipe. I have an automatic translation of the post so I'm not sure why he wrote what he wrote in the post. It's my confusion of his confusion. This is a BBB Two Star pipe. He posted another picture. It is an odd shape for BBB though, isn't it? Screenshot 2024-02-01 at 1.15.24 AM.png

I think this was called a hind shape, and it was quite popular in the early 20th century.

France is full of those squat and somewhat crude shapes. If you buy a box-o-pipes in an auction you will find several.
