All mods should be issued a chicken hat and required to wear it in their avatar.

Oh. I see. I see how it's going to be. I guess it's a good thing my camera is... uh... broken. Yeah. Broken.

I agree with the original message in this post, I have also noticed a difference. But the place is getting bigger, as long as everyone does their best, it will still remain the most or almost the most friendly place on the web

I think a lot of things that are said can be misconstrued. That is why lol is so useful. Sometimes difference of opinion is a great thing but it just needs to be said in a polite manner.

I really enjoy this forum. I only tend to comment when I have something to say; if it's not nice, I don't comment. I've noticed most of the arguments around here start when something gets misinterpreted because you can't tell tone from text, and someone takes it the wrong way. In the past if someone replies with something awful to say, I'll go to their user profile, and take a look at their previous posts. Usually the posts are very positive. Always try to give folks (pipe smokers especially) the benefit of the doubt.
My fool-proof method is that it's best to ignore their comment than to pour salt in the wound. Heck, sometimes people are just having a bad day. :puffpipe:

I have noticed in the last month or better yet last couple of weeks there has been an increasing number of people starting and getting on these threads about how the sky is going to fall, higher taxes, etc etc etc, an overall unrelaxed attitude. It really reminds me of the anger butts at one local B&M and a couple of local gun shops which I frequent no longer. We're all grown adults here with already formed opinions. Why not be civil and not try to corner others into agreeing with us ?

I am just throwing this out there, but what would you guys say to a PM member gathering? I thin it would be awsome to shake the hand of some of you guys. Just saying.

One od my favorite forums is an Australian motorcycle forum. They argue many times but remain friends. Its a natural dynamic of human interaction to have some conflict. I have seen nothing here that would or should cause any lasting animosity. Rather I see people keeping their disagreements civil. I have never thoight an intellectual challenge to be personal. The challenge of ideas has driven this culture to greatness. So let us all the be adult and understand that we are not all perfect and that some discourse of a challenging nature will and should be a part of normal operations on this platform...as it were.were.

Furthermore, I would like you to know that I would love to sit and enjoy a smoke with any one of you. If ya find yourself near the Houston area let me know, and I will be more than happy to meetup with ya. Even if you think we would not get along. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I continue to come to this site because it definitely lacks the drama of other sites. Unfortunately during the last big fight (before the one y'all are talking about) I got really sick and had to quit the internet for a while. Apparently some people took this as "Cyndi now hates PM like us and she's one of us!" Then somehow I was made a moderator on THREE DIFFERENT GROUPS.
You know what? None of those people sent me a message asking how I was but a buttload of PM people did. PM people are on my Facebook friends list and PM people are my friends.
Anyways, I see your chicken hat and raise you Jayne's hat from Firefly. "A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything."

This has been a great thread.

I've been "lurking" and reading every entry, all good stuff.
I have only two comments:

#1 I will only wear a chicken under threat of bodily harm. :D

And:

#2 (On a more serious note) There has been one thing missing over the last several months:

That being a noticeable lack of two acronyms in use A) IMO, and B) IMHO when making comments, or critiques.

I think the use of those two acronyms would defuse a lot of what are perceived as jabs or snipes at someone else.

After all: Opinions are like belly buttons... Some are innies and some are outies.

Just my 2 cents.

Well said locopony. It is a simple fact of human nature that when anything is "taboo" (such as discussing politics or religion) it will always and inevitably "erupt" at times...and when it does it is often ugly because the suppression has not allowed people to learn how to discuss such things. But when the natural, human need to have an outlet and discourse for such things is accommodated, reasonable people will learn to be civil and polite about it.
There will of course still be occasional flaring of tempers because this is also inevitable whenever passions are aroused...and some of us do have passionate convictions. But that is a good thing, not bad, IMHO. It doesn't mean the individual is just "looking for an argument" (although those types are out there as well).
IMHO, there is always appx. 10% or so of us freaks of nature who actually enjoy discussing politics/religion/philosophy...and it is always like fingernails on a chalkboard to the majority. I would offer the following suggestion, for what it's worth:
Perhaps the forum should have a separate page for such discussions, the threads of which would not be visible on the front page. Anyone desiring to participate would be welcome, and anyone who does not want to be exposed to such horrors as people discussing politics and religion would not have to be exposed to it.

Well it goes to show, (to paraphrase Winston Churchill) If someone hates you it means you stand for something. Apparently we stand for a hell of a lot here at PM!
Also, to expound on Lawrences idea, some people may not like smileys, but since there isn't a humor or sarcasm button on the internet, using a smiley can show when you are using humor as opposed to just making a mean statement.

I'm on quite a few forums and this is the MOST welcoming to new members. If a post gets heated just "turn the channel"...
PS :laughat:

Here in good ole Pennsylvania we follow the Amish rule of "shunning" folks who are genrally disagreeable. I simply don't get involved in volitile discussions. I've become a blend of my north Jersey & Pennsyvania living experiences. If someone is a dick the choices are whack 'em or shun 'em. One is fun and one is civil.

I don't know where you see all these conflicts, I always felt it was a friendly forum. However, conflict and debate is good for a forum, otherwise it stagnates and becomes boring.
