The only problem with clubs is that there are other people there and the mute/off button on my remote seldom works reliably on them.
Hmmmm. Where have I seen this before....I was the president of the Magic City Pipe Club for years. All you need is to just call it an actual club. Easy as that. You could register with the UPCA if you wanted, but its not necessary. We were registered.
For a few years before I became (was forced into) president, we just hung out and smoked. But, as we got larger (over 100 people) I started contacting pipe makers, blenders, tobacco companies to get reps to talk to our club. It helps if you have a pipe shop that is willing to give you the contact numbers.
But, when you start to get huge numbers, and everyone starts emailing you for information, decisions and shit, it starts to suck, ha ha. I couldn't get anyone to take over club leadership, so I quit. Just stopped showing up. So, I suggest, just keep it small and fun. But, word of warning, if you make your club known to the public, people will come out of the woodwork to join.
That would be really cool to have that available. I do have a local cigar B & M that I can go into and have a cigar or a pipe, but it would be nice to have a dedicated pipe club to meet with. 15 - 20 folks in attendance is a pretty good number, too.I attend the Arizona pipe club The Arizona Pipe Club - http://azpipeclub.com/
We are pretty casual. The main meeting is every 2nd Saturday from noon to 5 at a local cigar bar that allows us to meet there. As a minimal thank you for allowing us to use their space, we all try to buy something. Tobacco, a cigar, a beer, something. On average we have 15 or 20 people each meeting. Most of us bring along jars of tobacco for everyone to sample, many times aged, rare or unique. As long as you have 1 coordinator who sends out email updates and is a point of contact, it should be fine. The hardest part (especially in AZ) is finding a location. We do not really have many shops here that sell pipe stuff. We also don't have many places that allow indoor smoking.
