Hey and hello, Pipevilleworld here:
I, like all, I'm going to assume, amidst a transcendent pipe smoke find myself having to go so far as... tapping my pipe stem-first onto a napkin or paper towel or... the rag I use to clean and wipe my pipes with... in order to cause gravity to assist in escorting those dreadful droplets of moisture out of my pipe and, more importantly, out of my life. During an hour smoke sometimes I'll have to resort to this ritual up to five times; even getting so frustrated sometimes that I remove the stem altogether and blow into it downward as close as possible to the rag; so as not to have the drizzle land all over creation.
Do any of you other folks find yourselves being so interrupted? And if so, how do you handle it... and how do you cut it down? How much of that moisture build up is as a result of combustion and how much of it is saliva?

Best way to get rid of excess moisture is with pipe cleaners. Hands down. Some bent pipe will require finagling to get the pipe cleaner to the chamber, but it just takes a little practice.

I try to keep my intervals at 8 to 10 seconds; 3 to 4 puffs each. The cigar taught me to slow down a lot. The baccy could be a little too moist; and are all aromatics. I smoke Grandi-s most often. I don't have any metal filters. I've noticed that 3/4 through any smoke, there's a substantial diminishing of the issue; a smoother ride.

I use the pipe cleaner when I realize that I've packed a bit too tight; whenever I'm dealing with a new blend I'm trying out. Every blend seems like it requires one to learn how to pack all over again. Sometime I can sip my way through the displeasure but most often, I just go right ahead and... tap tap tap.

If you are smoking fairly slowly, it is worth drying out your tobacco a little. Just put enough for a bowl full on a paper towel for an hour before smoking it.
Clenching can add to gurgle if saliva enters the stem. I almost always smoke straight pipes and don't hold them in my mouth so I can't really comment on that.
Pipe cleaners really help but, unless the pipe has an army mount, I wouldn't advise removing the stem whilst the pipe is hot. Run a cleaner down to just short of the bowl, leave it there for a couple of seconds and remove. It's amazing how much moisture collects in some pipes.
One final tip; As soon as you get the first hint of gurgle, blow very very gently down the stem. If you move the ash in the bowl you are blowing too hard- it wants to be hardly more than a breath. That will push the moisture back into the bowl where it will hopefully be evaporated by the heat of the tobacco.

What withnail said, basically.
Sometimes, when I'm outside, nobody is watching and I'm smoking a straight pipe I give it a quick flick to remove excess moisture from the smoke channel. But I do suspect that this is very bad pipe etiquette, so I wouldn't advise doing that in company.

yep, blow gently back into the pipe and get a small straight stream of smoke rising out of the bowl...clears up the gurgle every time for me.

I'm with vroomfondel and assaad. I cover the bowl with my palm and flick the wrist to fling the moisture out. It usually only happens when it's really cold outside and the temperature difference causes the gurgle.

Cleaners, cleaners, and cleaners. And if that doesn't solve your problem, try drying out your 'baccy, as withnail mentioned.

I am not familiar with that blend, but it may well be a relabeled Lane's blend. I'm not sure how much Lane's uses humectants, but those can cause a real problem. :puffy:

Grandi's = Mario Grandi (pipe mfg.)
As others have already said, my method is dry the hell out of your tobacco, and if the gurgles pop up, gently blow the moisture back onto the cherry. If they still persist, I reach for a pipe-cleaner.

Pipe cleaner works, for me if its a straight pipe, and i am having lots of gurgling ill partially remove the stem, and when it gets bad, pop it off and blow through it

hehehe, (-:
Pipe cleaners, gentle puff into the pipe, slow the cadence and focus on sipping rather than puffing.
