I saw in past post(in this forum about one year ago)some comments about stinger(a metal pice for filtering perhaps), most of skillmen in this conversation believed it is a worse and is not proper for use in pipe, it was very intersting for me because more of pipes which I see to date engineering for use of stinger and my expereince show this is not bad andI feel better smoking with it,so I want to know what do you think about it?thank you very much.

I have owned only one pipe with a stinger -- a Kaywoodie. It bothered me because moisture condensed on the metal parts

(which, I suppose was the intent), but I couldn't get a pipe cleaner into the pipe shank to remove the accumulated moisture.

I do think stingers cool the smoke stream somewhat, but that's not much of an advantage for me.

I have a kaywoodie churchwarden , and chinrester also . Both have stingers , smoke great ! Not good for really moist blends , they condensate a bit of moisture . Some liken , some don't .

If you like them, keep them in the pipe. I take mine out if possible, but that's my preference.

My father used to smoke several pipes with stingers when I was very young, and, to this day, every time I think of him with a pipe, I still hear a gurgle.

I also remove them. Just a personal preference I guess. I find they add moisture to my smokes and can't get a cleaner through them. So I remove them and save em in a baccy tin. Have about 25 right now.

I like my old Kaywoodies with the stinger intact. I have one where the stinger was cut off and it smokes just fine, though. The stingers don't interfere with the smoke for me and I don't feel right cutting up a 50 or 60 year old pipe.
