Ha I haven't posted in a while I try to give smoking all together and I was doing good but recent life stresses had me coming back. So I was looking for a new pipe to add to the collection and a nice project to do on my spare time. So I'm looking at estate pipes eBay so I want to get your opinion on this one. I don't see any problems with it but I figured you guys probably have a more keen eye. It's $7.99 plus shipping on eBay.

It's a good price and I Iike the shape. The carving is folksy, but I somewhat like that and have a poker with similar looping carving.

The stem does not seem to fit neatly into the shank, so there could be a problem there. I can't read the stamp, so I don't know whether this is a standard brand or something more off-the-wall.

For the money, it might be an interesting bet. I think it will need a lot of cleaning and restoration, if you are up for that.

If not, you might be interested in a hardwood pipe from Missouri Meerschaum, for a little more money, but not much. I like their Zenon made of maple.

I'll agree the price is right but how the tenon is fitting into the shank is worrisome. It could be a sign of the stem coming from another pipe.

Yeah that is a concern of mine but that's the race you take for buying estate pipes I guess. Hopefully it'll be a minor thing to fix.

I purchased 6 or 8 estate pipes in the last few months and only got two that I found were not salvageable. One was really messed up in the seller refunded my money. The other was a nice shape, a large three-quarter billiard but it was horribly ghosted. I took the cake down and sanded the inside of the bowl and felt something on the bottom. It appears as though the bottom it started to burn out and someone had patched it with some hard black substance. The patch only partially cover the bottom of the bowl. Totally unusual as far as I'm concerned. But you win some, and you lose some.

For the price of that pipe, I would definitely give it a try. If it smokes halfway decent, you've got a bargain!

Well that's the risk you take for buying anything used really but that's part of the fun with getting is estate pipes is having a nice little project to occupy your free time with. Even if it came out unusable I still have a nice piece to put on the shelf.

It came to day. It in good shape mainly needed a little cleaning. Definitely seen some heavy use. The shank did have some carbon buildup but I'm happy withIMG_20230818_205939679.jpg it.IMG_20230818_205811221.jpgIMG_20230818_205815760.jpgIMG_20230818_210217744.jpg

I've had good luck with estates that look like they've been smoked heavily. Sign of of a good smoking pipe.
