What Do You Carry Your Pipe Tobacco In?

I would love some sort of fancy metal tin can or box, or a non leather pouch for my tobacco for when out at cafes and bars.

What do you use and do you have any recommendations for me?

For toting a pipe, I think an inside jacket pocket (whatever your style, denim or blazer) does the job best. A carrying case, if it's handsome, invites theft, and you can forget it going places. For inside carry-on luggage, I'll use an inexpensive nylon dap kit, since people don't want to steal my toothbrush and deodorant. I have a beautiful leather churchwarden case my wife gave me as a gift, and I use that mostly for storage, but on a shelf where it can be seen. I try to avoid purse-like totes because I consider pockets one of the huge pluses of being male. My wife has mobility problems, so with crutches, she sometimes hands her purse to me, which is fine, but I have to be careful in N.C. not to carry it into a restroom if I'm not carrying my birth certificate -- which is a joke we enjoy.

If I'm out fishing or walking I tend to use tupperware as space isn't an issue but rugged safety is. If I'm off out into town then I tend to use flake or plug tobacco and carry it in an old silver cigarette case that also holds doubled over pipe cleaners, pipes are carried in a pipe sock.

Siren and a flashing light perhaps on the fancy can? Perhaps a herald to announce your arrival at the bar or cafe?

I saw some kind of fancy tin of Peterson this week. Don't know what the blend was but the tin was green and was about the size and shape of a large cell phone. It would have been a dandy for toting any blend you cared to.
EDIT: Just looked it up, it is Peterson Special Reserve.

For the fancier cafes, you want to go contra-fancy, so a recycled baggie of some sort. For low brow spots, you want a really expensive and flashy container that's still easy to use. That rules out rigid containers. A Zebra covered pouch that will fit nicely inside the blazer should be perfect.

If you do use a can of some sort, a tin of Balkan Sobranie says a lot, and you'll want to leave it conspicuously displayed, along with a BIC at the high brow cafe, or a DuPont at the low brow spot.

If you want a tin, I suggest one of those 50g rectangular tins some tobaccos come in, the round ones are a bit of a pain to fit in a pocket. Check out Irish flake or Old-dark fired tins.

I use a leather tobacco pouch or a Dunhill Flake tin for small quantities on the go. I also keep a beat up old "The Pipe" in by backpack for spur-of-the-moment smoking.
If I'm traveling, all my tobacco stuff goes into a Dopp bag.

I have a very small tin from a tea shop that I carry to my pipe club. It holds about two bowls worth, which is enough for me.

I usually refill a small tin from previous tobaccos, after being aired out of course. Special Latakia Flake came in the smallest gold tin I've ever seen and its easy enough to take the label off if you want. That or I specifically buy a tobacco in a pouch if I intend on taking it for a journey. Spending money on a separate container when so many tobaccos already come in an interesting tin felt like a waste of money that can go towards my next pipe. As far as leather pouches go I don't see how they would protect the tobacco in a pocket anyway, may as well just use a ziploc. Also bigger ones that fit a pipe inside look like man bag which isn't quite for me, rather use a shirt pocket. For luggage something like a dollar store sunglasses case stores everything nicely, some even have a fabric divider so you can keep the pipe away from things that would scratch it.

I'm with beehive: you've already got tobacco tins, and the artwork on many will impress if that's your thing. I love the way the blenders' tins look. That's what I use to carry, and I find that they let small quantities dry out a bit which is good for smoking on the go. Soft pouches are cool, good for a breast pocket. No need to overthink it.
Warren: you crack me up! You seem a bit less reserved of late than I remember when I first joined this forum.
