Well after all the talk of Dunhill Flake in this thread I decided to crack my only tin. Unlike the FVF I have only had this tin a few weeks so it has no age on it.
Again a great looking flake.
It was clearly ready to smoke right from the tin. I roughly broke up a flake and loaded the same pipe I used for the FVF. Dunhill Flake is certainly a solid smoke but if falls into a different category to FVF. It does not have the same depth or buttery richness that I got from FVF. What I did find is that it had a very nice citrus note and a fresh feel, the flavours seemed to darken in the second half of the bowl and I wondered if I was getting some anise at points. It burned very well in the pipe and did not need a relight until right near the bottom. I can see this as a very good hot weather summer smoke. I'll be getting more of this blend but doubt I'll cellar as deep as I will try to do for FVF.
I look forward to trying some of the other blends mentioned on here, in particular BBF when I can get my hands on some.
