Had a nice little sneaky deeky walk out in the front gardens today. Always a little hairy jumping on the elevator going back and forth from the 18th floor. But at least this time my pockets weren't bulging with pipes. All i had was an ez to conceal Bic. Made it back and into the shower without issue. They came in to check vitals about 10 minutes after i got out. Perfection. At least i don't have to tunnel through a concrete wall, crawl through HVAC and shimmy down elevator lines. Life could be worse. ;)

Today's escape was inspired and empowered by El Cubano Cigars of local Texas City...

That Bic did manage to scorch the edge of my thumb a tad. Trying to fire up in the Texas winds while keeping an eye out can be a tricky job. :P
Nice work

Another very good Bobi Gray

Love it when cigars are salty. These hit me that way. So does NBK from black label. Aladino Corojo has a bit of this... C&D Exclusive has it too

Anyone know why/ what that is?

This is an interesting experience. I used to get this off of a certain line of candella i had a few times years ago. Always wondered if they used guard dogs in the fields and those were the lower leaves they used for wrappers. haha

This would be another great question for someone that knows about growing/curing. I guess i should start a list for next time i see Arturo and just corner him for an exclusive interview. :P

Good news from the docs this morning. Numbers are looking good. My wife arrives tomorrow night in Houston and i should be able to get out as soon as the 20th, which would be perfect.

To celebrate, of course, i had to slink out 😎 after they left me with the good news and fire up a little celebratory Rafael Gonzales in the Texas sunshine. The gardens and fountain out front really are relaxing.

Back to piping (and posting on the WAYS thread) soon with some new pipes and tobacco to try. 👍

Could also be sweaty roller hands?

Naw, it really is coming from tobacco

Would be very interested to hear what Fuente says, if you get the opportunity

Glad to hear things are going well for you

I wonder if what I'm describing as salt would be better called something else?

It's not sweet, sour, bitter, or umami...

It's like a wet salt, one of the fancy grey or pink ones... rocky like shale... minerality?
Was talking with my brother about this and he said sometimes white pepper flavor will come through as salty to some folks. 🤷🏻‍♂️I’ve tasted salty and white pepper….so idk.

Punch Clasico for my first smoke of the day. IMG_1962.jpeg

I've noticed distinct saltiness several times, usually in cheaper cigars, such as
Factory Smokes Shade
Charter Oak Maduro Lonsdale
Brickhouse Mighty Mighty
Henry Clay Toro

But it hasn't happened consistently in cigars that I've smoked relatively regularly: I've only noticed it once in the Arturo Fuente Curly Head Natural and the Cain Nub Habano, out of maybe 10x for each, so I figure it's a one-off. Maybe @dottlejockey is on the right track ;)

Anyone with an established JR Cigars account want to sign me up through their Refer A Friend Program? We each get a $30 coupon. DM me for info.
Thanks for the offer. I thought I had an account but I guess not...

Just a little Antaño for me today. Very rainy afternoon. Had a Rare Pink cued up but that might have to wait till tomorrow..
