Received some Oliva 2nds today from Cigar Page. Double Robusto Habano wrapper. Tasty but has a few rough edges, some vegetal notes and just tastes a bit 'young' to me.

I'm guessing they become 2nds before spending much time in an ageing room. Overall flavor profile is good and I think 3 to 6 months in the humidor will smooth out the edges.

Anyone have any details on the 2nds, Oliva or in general?

One of the blessings of old age: farsightedness. Not having to worry about seeing these little buggers anymore.

BTW: we need more zoom lense on that evidence pic you provided. I was reminded of looking at the pics of alleged alien structures on the moon years ago when i tried to make it out. 😆

It was just the first pic I grabbed from an internet search. If you search "cigar wood mites," you should be able to find more pics.

I have good vision for close-up, and when I notice wood mites, it's always the movement I notice first, before noticing the individual body of the bug. They're similar to seed ticks in that way.

I myself have gotten a couple bundles of Oliva 2nds from Cigarpage, and they’ve been iffy for me. Some are incredible and smoke/taste wonderfully, but a solid 30%-40% have weird off flavors and/or burn like shit. I’ve somewhat lost my desire for them. For the same price (or cheaper) I’ve gotten more enjoyment from the Class 34 line on their site. They’ve been mighty consistent.

I'll keep updating as I smoke through them. Likely let them rest for a while before trying another one to see how they settle in. Not encouraging that you experienced that much variability. Oh well, for the price it is a reasonable experiment.

Yeah I mean for like $2.50 or whatever a stick… it’s worth a little gambling to see if something is a hidden gem.

2nds become 2nds right off the line. A quality control person deems them 2nds because of a wrapper blemish, too many veins, wrapper shade, feel, many variables. I doubt they go into an aging room. Best consistent seconds I've had are Alec Bradley 2nds
