That Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf the regular Melanios are wrapped with are really special. And the combination of box press and oily, splotchy wrapper makes them really appealing to look at, too.Oliva Serie V Maduro
For Melanio I prefer the natural wrapper way more than the Maduro. On the other hand for regular Serie V I prefer the Maduro way more than the natural
Like all cigar marketing, I am skeptical of the "forgot to press their most prestigious cigar" excuse, but I know Oliva does sell a lot of overstock and cosmetic seconds through CP, and I've seen some that are pretty clearly Melanios because of the vitolas. Did it taste like a Melanio? If so, might grab me some.Another cigar : Oliva Rounds 96 rated.
Cigar Page sold it stating, that it is the Melanio but rolled round by mistake.
The Fuente Rosado Sungrown Magnum R uses the same wrapper with a lower priming, supposedly. Wonderful cigars, ridiculous name, and maybe a bit milder. On the other hand, same deal with the lower priming wrapper but the San Cristobal Revelation has Nicaraguan binder and filler, so they're probably on par or a bit spicier than the VSG. All 3 are great, worth exploring.Ashton VSG Tres Mystique

These strike me as quite strong and very full flavored. In a way, they remind me of the Rocky 1992s I used to like and probably still do
Thank you for this info. I do have some Magnum R 44s and will keep the supposed wrapper similarity in mindThe Fuente Rosado Sungrown Magnum R uses the same wrapper with a lower priming, supposedly. It does taste like a Melanio but a bit bolder : I think these are aged lessLike all cigar marketing, I am skeptical of the "forgot to press their most prestigious cigar" excuse, but I know Oliva does sell a lot of overstock and cosmetic seconds through CP, and I've seen some that are pretty clearly Melanios because of the vitolas.
