It’s late, and a little too cold to smoke a proper stick right now, but to get this year’s thread going, I’m having an Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Miniature to start off 2024.

Yes - versus the pipe that I can smoke down to a certain temperature in the winter, I find cigars not so much - there's something missing in the vibe.

How do they compare to the Italian Toscanos?

De Nobili Popular. Sticking my nose into a freshly cracked box, I’m struck by a strong medicinal-type smell which is very pleasant, in my opinion. I’m getting a faint hint of what is possibly anise? Pretty interesting.

How about a Toscano Classico cut ammezzato - in the "crime zone"! Luckily, the last victim had time to scrawl a warning on the wall before being dragged away!

How do they compare to the Italian Toscanos?

I’ll be the first to admit that my palate is not what you’d call refined, but to me they’re definitely a bit sweeter and less smoky/rich compared to Toscano. The price is right on them, though! They’re a nice little 30-35 minute smoke for me.

Petri Toscanello - yowza! These are really fantastic. Anise and a substantial amount of zesty spice. These are worth keeping a few boxes stockpiled.

I mostly only find the lancero or the toro gordo, locally.
