For as simple as they seem, people sure do want to sell them at high prices.
Well that's the thing -- "as simple as they seem" --- they are not simple. If you make a thousand of something in a factory, you can sell it for a "reasonable" price. If what you're making is a one off, like my pipe rack, it is not the same thing at all. People who are not woodworkers have no clue all the different steps that go into making a piece. No reason they should. Wood is not a stable material -- it expands and contracts as the seasons change, so that has to be accounted for in the design, and that is only one example of challenges encountered.
So "high prices" touches a nerve among woodworkers. Very tough way to make a living. One reason it's just a hobby for me.
