I'm a smoker first, and a collector second! I smoke everyday, but I enjoy the collecting part of the hobby just as much. I've been smoking pipes for going on six years now, and I've accumulated around 50 pipes in that amount of time! I appreciate the time, effort, and skill it takes to make them, as well as the experience of smoking a new pipe for the first time and the never ending quest for the next "favorite" pipe.

I have a collection of pipes that I smoke. I smoke all of them. At this time in my life, I don't think I will ever buy a pipe just to admire. So, I am definitely a smoker.

Smoker, but I collect tobacco to smoke, too, and pipes to smoke it out of. If it's a collection, it's one geared towards functionality.

Smoker, buying something like a pipe/car/guitar/etc and letting it sit unused is a crime!

There's a difference? :D
When I first took up the hobby last year, my wife looked at me with a certain amount of amusement as I opened up my bag of Smokable Seconds from Missouri Meerschaum and my 6-tobacco sampler from Hearth & Home/Pipes & Cigars, and sighed, "This is going to be one of THOSE hobbies, isn't it?" - at which point I simply pointed to the shelf full of teapots and the other shelf full of boxed and bagged teas... :nana: and answered "Yes."

I smoke 'em. I seem to gravitate toward mid-level and a few low-level pipes, with a few

verging on high-level, but the aggregation is a smoker's array and not a collection. In

ten years, it might become a sort of collection, but that's not the objective. I have about

ten handmade pipes, but not especially pricey ones. My wife gave me a 42 pipe cabinet

for Christmas, to be delivered. I don't know what effect that will have. My three racks

now are filled, with a few other pipes in baskets. Stand by for further reports.

I'm a 100% smoker. When it comes to pipes or cigars age, price, or rarity does not matter. I will put flame to it.

I'm a smoker and a cherisher :) I haven't acquired enough pipes to consider myself a collector yet. But I cherish those that I have. I do however have three Nordings now. So perhaps I'm on my way to collecting those.

I am a smoker of tobacco and I guess could be considered a collector of American artisan pipes, although I smoke everyone of them and have no intentions of ever buying a pipe to look at.

This is an interesting question. I don't own a pipe I haven't smoked and wouldn't gladly smoke again. However, I'm not a daily smoker, maybe a couple bowls over the course of a weekend. If it's a holiday week, I might get in one or two more. So, a lot of my time is spent admiring the pipes, appreciating them, and thinking about when I'll get to use them again. That being said, they are pipes, they're meant to be smoked and I'm going to smoke every one of them, maybe not often, maybe not enough, but all of them and as often as I am able!

An occasional pipe smoker who got carried away with PAD and TAD
gonna quit the "collecting" part of it for awhile and focus just on the "smoking" part of the hobby

As a woodworker, I am fascinated by pipes. I enjoy the beauty and functionality. I also enjoy the relaxation and taste of good tobacco. I guess you can put me down in both categories.

I only have 2 pipes out of the over 300 that I have that I have not smoked, they are Paul Perri pipes and are so stunning beautiful that I like to admire, them it's unusual for me to not smoke a pipe as I am first a smoker then I guess a collecter, pipes to me are works of functional art and I love them, I have original paintings that I have paid a lot of money for and all I can do is look at them, my pipes I can caress them, smoke them, contemplate about the fate of the world, damn I love them.

Well said Old Cajun.
Also I find it hard as a smoker, not becoming a collector. I always tell myself I will get rid of some pipes before I buy another one but, it never happens.
