Just finished up Downton Abbey. 4.5/5.0
It’s a rare series that manages to maintain its quality for the entire run.

In '24 we started our vacation with a couple of nights a short walk from Highclere Castle - spent two days at the show (a game fair which was a ton of fun) and also took the tour and met the lady of the manor while walking the grounds. Fun time.

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning.
1/5 stars - an epically awful movie.

But, after reading the current edition of "The Pipe Smoker", I learned that composer of the famour tv show theme song was a pipe smoker and recently passed. A raised pipe to Lalo Schifirin!

I stuck thru nearly three hours of a turd of a movie (can't call this one a film) to see these credits.

Schifrin's collaborations with Eastwood were almost all great, he also wrote one of the other best TV themes ever - "Mannix", lol. His work on "The Cincinnati Kid" was really good and the "Bullitt" soundtrack is a standalone album of really good music.

Finally got to see F1 at home. We have a decent TV and a 7.1 system, so it sounded pretty good. For racing movies, I still give the nod to Grand Prix and LeMans but it was good. (4/5 mostly because it was too long). There's no nearly 3 hour movie that would tempt me to sit in a theater seat for that long.

Clearly no one is watch the TV this month except me. Watching Redford and Streep in Out of Africa. Wonderful movie and great acting, scenery and pipe smoking scenes. Redford is going to be missed that's for sure. Fox TV ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and well worth your time as new watcher or like me a revisit.

I have que'd up:
All the Presidents Men (can't remember seeing that at all)
The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - I see them first run in the movie theater as a young boy, but not since.
I re-watched "Three Days of the Condor" earlier this year, it's a favorite.

The Sting, must revisit that one and if I could recommend one, An Unfinished Life with Redford and Morgan Freeman is good.

Max and I went to see One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Reginia Hall, Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti. It's based on Vineland, a novel written by Thomas Pynchon.

A 162 minutes, I was afraid that it was going to be a bit of a slog, but the acting, pacing, both visually and via a very canny film score, plus the absurdist elements of the plot, held my attention, and the film just seemed to flow past. There are a number of interleaved story lines being developed, so the picture doesn't stall.

It's one of my best movie experiences in a long long time. The subject matter, performances, and visuals are pretty gonzo, and not for the squeamish, prudish, or for true believers. Almost everything it sets up, it tears apart.

5 out of 5

Was looking forward to the below movie and saw it yesterday. Good cast, but was disappointed. It was about ex-revolutionaries reuniting to rescue a daughter. Another waaaaay too long 3 hr movie, which seems to be a trend lately. 1st hr = 1, 2nd hr = 2, and 3rd hr = 3. So, I guess 2-5 overall.

Interesting. Jesse loved it, different strokes.
At neary 3 hours, I could NEVER see this in a theater. I'll watch it at home on the digital release and treat it like a mini series.

Slow Horses Season 5 is back, I haven't started watching it yet (Season 1-4 are to me, the best series on television).

Good month to watch Monster. If you enjoy movies like Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Silence of the Lambs, then this should be right up your alley. Only 3 episodes in (8 total), but 4-5 so far.
