A third of the way through this bowl of circa year 2000 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Watching Mad Dog Russo.

Don’t worry about keeping them lit, I don’t, just enjoy.

I’ve never had a pipe gurgle, but it can happen.
I achieve greater results when tobacco is burning and stays that way. I’ve read your method of lighting the pipe, taking 3 puffs and letting it extinguish, while waiting a short amount of time before doing it again…and again….and again. That just doesn’t work for me and may explain why you’ve never experienced a gurgle before.

That was some pretty bad advice if you can’t smoke a Cob, pipe smoking isn’t for you. Actually a Cob is more porous that briar, and it let’s out more of the flavor, so you don’t get as good a representation of the actual flavors in a Cob.
I honestly believe I’m not missing a thing, flavor-wise.
Smoking fine crafted high quality blends, you’re not doing them any justice smoking them in a Cob, you’re loosing out on the richness they have to offer.
We’ll just have to agree, to disagree. But that’s what makes this hobby great. Everyone has their own way to go about it and as long as it’s working for them, I’d say they’re doing it the right way.

Thanks for your input and trying to put me on the right path. I’m a work in progress and always learning something new, every time I visit the forum. Have a great day.
