Dunhill Flake in a Stanwell Silke Brun 139. Tried Dunhill Flake a year and a half ago when I bought a tin and was not a fan at all. It tasted very "sharp" for lack of a better word. Hot, tangy, acrid, just unpleasant all around. So I jarred it up for a year and a half and broke it out yesterday/today. MUCH better. The first third of the bowl was still overly hot and tangy in my opinion. It didn't have the acrid ash-tray flavor I remember from before though. The real pleasure was in the 2nd 3rd of the bowl. It mellowed out nicely, cooled down, and became a very enjoyable smoke. Not one of my all-time favorites, but I certainly can smoke the rest of the tin now.

Sam Gawith Full Virginia Flake PLUG in yet another Dr Plumb little straight apple 8751. I've never had FVF before, so it's ironic I'm starting with the plug, but it's beautiful. From the reviews on tobaccoreviews.com, I may be slightly disappointed when I get to the flake. The prep was easy - a slightly oily but otherwise dry flat cake (rather than a square plug) from which I could cut and cube strips with my little pipe knife. Doesn't rub out well for kindling, but lit on second true light, so all good.
