Finally overcame my indecisiveness on what new tin to crack open:

Pesse Canoe Purple Pearl Turkish Oriental Flake. Peterson SPD 2011 (221). Broke up the flake into small crumbles. It's burning beautifully and really pleasant. It's lightly aromatic, described as "red berries/fruit." The topping is not strong at all -- slight perfume characteristic. (I.e., it's nothing like Sutliff Black Cordial; here you actually taste the quality tobacco blend of oriental, burley and virginia. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Black Cordial!)

First time try of a sample of C&D Firebird Flake, courtesy of @Goblin_Walrus . Nice, but I prefer its original name, Blend for Jim Rockford:



Note: this blend tastes best when smoked while wearing plaid pants and a tweed sport jacket. Don't ask me how I know this. 7/10

Bird report: House finch, California scrub-jay, Dark-eyed junco, California towhee, White-crowned sparrow, Chipping sparrow, American crow, Band-tailed pigeon, Red-tailed hawk, Hairy woodpecker, California quail, Spotted towhee, White-breasted nuthatch, American robin, Western bluebird, and Northern flicker.

This bowl was dedicated to my friend's Arabian gelding, Sultan, who passed yesterday at the ripe old age of 32. I had the great fortune of riding this horse shortly before he retired from active duty:

Just opened a 10 year old tin of HH Vintage Syrian. Pipe is a blasted Willmer Canadian.

Delicious. Time has been kind to this blend. The soda cracker dry character of the Syrian Lat is very evident.
