Continuing my travel notes from the Middle Kingdom.
I'll be trying a pack of local cigarettes from Guangxi China Tobacco Industrial Co., Ltd.—an unforgettable example of traditional flue-cured Virginias. The blend offers a clean, naturally sweet aroma with light wood and honey notes. The nicotine content is around 1.1 mg, which is quite rare in modern Western cigarettes. The leaf quality is surprisingly good: golden-brown in color, even cut, smooth burn, and a light, dry finish without a moderate harshness. Essentially, this is a simple, well-fermented Virginia with a light body—no artificial flavors, just pure tobacco. For a mass-market product, I was surprised by the quality of its execution—a 4 out of 5, in my opinion. Factories in Guangxi focus on flue-cured tobacco (flue-cured Virginia), primarily from varieties grown in the subtropical climates of Guangxi and Yunyang.

I was working to help set up a factory here in the US, and the vendor technicians and engineers were all Chinese - I got a chance to try lots of different brands of Chinese cigarette (as judging by the packs themselves, I can’t read a single character of Mandarin). Boy those fellows were very generous with their cigarettes. Wonderful tobacco, and strong, lift you off your feet a little the first time strong. At that time I had no discerning tobacco vocabulary, and truly could not appreciate what I was smoking. But I knew they were good, and I enjoyed them, and wish I still had a couple.

Now smoking year 2020 H&H Chatham Manor in a straight smooth 2023 Peterson Red Killarney 53 lovat with metal accents around the shank and a black acrylic p-lip saddle stem. Tomato the Brave ate well, and is snoozin' on a blanket. Just let Harry the Hairy in to eat. Daisy the Feral Princess is snoozin' by my feet. Sleepy Suzy is sleeping with one eye open. Molly Danger is in the bed room with m'lady.

Last smoke of the day is Wilke Pickett’s Charge in a post-WW2 straight smooth brown pre-Republic Peterson’s Dublin 3 bulldog with a nickel band and a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. Tomato the Brave ate plenty, played around, got attention, and then wanted out. I'm reading while this bowl lasts.

Well Paul, as I read the results of the Dodger's game last night, I thought about how happy your wife must be on the victory. Also, I'm sure that you and @JimInks were astounded to see Ohtani do something no one else has done in the majors..... pitch six scoreless innings and hit 3 homers. Simply amazing....

Post show puff of some Virginia Gentleman in a Savinelli 601. This pipe is breaking in nicely it might become a good Virginia smoker yet. Played real good tonight this is a nice nightcap and compliments the earlier smoke of Oriental Silk.
Abe, may I ask what it is that you play? I'm sure others may know, but I don't. Thx.
