PS LNF in a Savinelli 2614KS with 6mm filter this afternoon while letting the Barontini dry ... I washed the outside with mild soap and water then wiped it down later with alcohol to remove the finish stain from the top two thirds. Alot came off. Getting ready to oil it then patch any dings then refinish as I might. At this point its a repair play pipe that smokes great.

Eventful Day. Got smoked out yesterday, so didn't bother to light anything up. This morning was a different story, with a special Skippable Drivel today, underneath the documentation of the morning's smoke, just below:

IMGP6488PianoStoolOPT.JPG

In the spirit of a number of retro posts and photos in the forum lately, I present my morning smokes using an new retro backdrop, a piano stool from the 1850s, that I got with my Bechstein Upright which was given to my for my highschool graduation by my parents way back in 1969. Yup, still use the stool, sitting on it next to the student, who plays on a much more useful and comfortable contemporary piano bench.

Started off with the pipsqueak McQueen Miniature Prospector in cherrywood. Had a superb smoke of Mr B's English Mix, a true Balkan I believe sold in the US under the Brigham label. Now a full two weeks off of meds, I'm getting some tastebuds back and actually got some of the nuance of this great blend. As I noted earlier, I find cherrywood terrific for English type lats. Finished off the morning smokes with a Kwiki Grape Cigar. Like 'em! I think you retro freaks are going to love the Skippable Drivel, so let's post the picture without further ado. Explanation underneath, of course. Pretty verbose today, I'm afraid. :ROFLMAO:

For me, this afternoon was a nostalgic moment. Glad Buddy Mike was here to share it, cuz he set up most of the equipment I'm now revelling in, most of it not in the picture but was in previous posts. Sitting upon a sturdy large format tripod is a large screen. It's an actual television, believe it or not. Weighs a ton, has external speakers, and is most certainly not hi-definition. That's why we put it on a tripod that I use for my "small' 5x7 studio camera.

On top of the Lloyd's Tube AM/FM radio, is a soapstone carving of the Last Supper, given to me by my Mom, many years ago.

Mike and I watched an old DVD of the totally over-the-top program, Iron Chef, from my old Food Channel's vault of CDs I made myself. You will recognize Mario Batali, one of the "Iron Chefs", in the program "Challenge Halibut." Mario was my favourite Iron Chef, cuz he was big and fat, and so was I, believe it or not, during the middle of my career when all I did was play a violin, eat, drink and fish. I smartened up when my knees crashed, from too much weight in the squat cage at the gym. That's another story, which I probably won't bother to tell.

During the last two years of her life, Mom had terminal cancer, and I went over to my folks place almost every night, recording such gems as "Iron Chef" and Alton Brown's "Good Eats" on the very CD recorder you might be able to see a touch of under the radio. I'd edit the commercials out of these programs, and Mom, who was a food expert and chef herself, would give her running commentary on the entire affair. She really knew her stuff, and proudly taught me what she knew, as I was the only on in the family really interested - the rest basically took her skills for granted except what she put on the table.

Her cancer, which actually took four years to kill her, was the reason for the "Last Supper" carving inclusion. Yeah, she could do almost everything you could see in these, her two favourite cooking shows, and she made sure I could, too.

You can fill in all of the remaining details yourselves. Shouldn't be difficult to do. Net result of the video session is that Mike wormed a dinner invitation out of me for him and our picnic table crowd during the Christmas Holidays. That's not that far away, actually . . . .and the only thing missing from today's viewing and the Christmas dinnier will be Mom herself, (and of course Dad, who along with me, were her biggest culinary fans.
