Wrapped up my ranch chores in time to enjoy an ethereal golden sunset surrounded by billowing dark clouds. There's already that chilly autumnal crispness in the air, more reminiscent of much deeper into the season. No complaints, of course...perfect time to break out the lat. GLP Horizons (sample) in my non-aromatic lat pipe, a Savinelli Bacco 321 rusticated bent author. And so, in the immortal words of Walter Sobchak...SHOMER SHABBOS! 9/10

Bird report: House finch, California scrub-jay, Purple finch, California towhee, Dark-eyed junco, White-crowned sparrow, Band-tailed pigeon, American crow, Red-tailed hawk, California quail, Mountain chickadee, Oak titmouse, White-breasted nuthatch, Northern flicker, Western bluebird, and Spotted towhee.

Looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend. Visiting with my parents and in-laws next week...not so much.

Just ordered a tin of Horizons, excited to try.
Walter Sobchak is a fine source of guidance! Am I the only one around here that gives a - anyway…
I also spied a red-tailed hawk this week, they’re beautiful creatures. You see many vultures, like turkey vultures? They’re cool too.

Getting ready to clean a few pipes as I watch the reds-Dodgers game.
QUES for you, Jim. You comment frequently about "Getting ready to clean a few pipes".
Do you thoroughly clean each pipe after a single smoke, or (aside from running a pipe cleaner through after a smoke) do you smoke a pipe several times before giving it a thorough cleaning?
NOTE: I like to sort of "smoke the heck" out of a pipe several times after pulling it from the rack to regain a nice familiarity prior to a thorough cleaning ... (with pipe cleaners & whiskey) ... before returning it.

Bob Gibson is my all time favorite pitcher, too. I got to see him pitch in person once. That was a real thrill.
Bob Gibson's hard personality was awesome. For me, however (youth nostalgia plus MN residency), Camilo Pasqual holds special memories. He & Pedro Ramos (Pistol Pete) were a great tandem.

Earlier, 1849 in a cob while working out some cuts for sidelights in the shed.

I ran down to the hardware store for the clear panel, and Marci, the Manager, was working the till. I told her I couldn't find any left-handed hammers, and without missing a beat, she said "the $320 Stilettos are rated ambidextrous..." LOL! I can't believe there are $300 hammers! (Let alone stocked on our little island..she admitted is NOT a big seller, but one was stolen the other day. "The young hotshots all want titanium.") smh

This evening, Awakened Elder in the Full Pete XL315 Silver Spigot with P-lip. It is getting cool at night now. Got some firewood in by the fireplace, maybe tomorrow night...

300 dollar hammer better hit the nail for me! The thought of stealing a hammer as well, I mean just go stalk a new residential build for a couple hours, they’re practically giving them away!
Also I’m liking the look of that silver spigot 👀 nice choice

Earlier, I smoked a bowl of year 2014 FVF in a straight smooth brown year 1923 Dunhill A billiard 60 patent March 9.15 with a tapered black vulcanite stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo.

Then, I enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am a quarter of the way through this bowl of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a very much appreciated 1979 brown, slight bend grain etched flat front Stanwell Rego 969-48 (09) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Daisy the Feral Princess was on my lap for a short while, but moved when I did, and is laying by my feet. Going to check on the other ferals soon.

I never smoke a pipe after a smoke until I clean it. Unless I am out of town where I take some pipes, but even I'll switch from one pipe to another, and as soon as it cools down, I clean the previous pipe before smoking it again. I prefer a clean smoke with no residual moisture in the shank and stem. I've been doing that since the 1970s.

Hung out around a bonfire with some buddies from high school that I've reconnected with over the years. Among the beers and laughter and general silly stupidity I smoked some Billy Budd in a Nording Bulldog. Mighty fine smoke for a night like the night. One of my buddies also smokes a pipe but he didn't bring his and I didn't bring a spare but we'll share tobacco soon. Cheers yall!
