A long, long time ago, when I was just a young tyke the first baseball team that I fell for was the St. Louis Cardinals. This was way back in the sixties but they had players like Lou Brock, Orlando Cepeda, Tim McCarver and others. Also, they had my very favorite pitcher of all in Bob Gibson. Well, they made it to the Series that year and were expected to just pulverize the Detroit Tigers. Although the Tigers had a 30 game winner in a kid named Denny McClain.I’ve always liked Detroit myself and would be thrilled to see them win.
Happy anniversary!Anniversary celebration today, albeit cut short with an early dinner before the Yom Kippur fast begins. First smoke of the month was Mac Baren Black Ambrosia in my aromatic pipe, a Savinelli Miele 641 KS smooth bent apple. Wifey joined me with a cigarillo. I'd say that after 14 years, we get along pretty well...at least when we're not sitting in front of a Scrabble board. 9/10
Bird report: House finch, California scrub-jay, Band-tailed pigeon, White-crowned sparrow, Dark-eyed junco, California towhee, California quail, American crow, Bushtit, White-breasted nuthatch, Northern flicker, Mountain chickadee, Steller's jay, and Spotted towhee.
Happy October all!
Bob Gibson is my all time favorite pitcher, too. I got to see him pitch in person once. Detroit broke my young, little heart that year by winning the series and sending my Cards back to St. Louis with their tails between their legs. It was years before I could even utter the word "Detroit."
However, being the magnanimous person that I am, I would be glad to see them win it this year.... No one can say that I hold a grudge.............

Every time we visit TN, or NC etc I love it, but I get lost without a horizon and my wife tires of me noting that I can shoot farther than I can see all the time. But I’m definitely thinking of a more wooded retirement.Thank you, my friend. I enjoy it here, but I gotta admit that some of those gorgeous sunsets you post really tug at my heart. Nothing like that around here.

Heck yeah it’s gorgeous, what a span of days and nights we’ve had!Sutliff Z50 Black Cordialin the Country Gentleman
