Stanwell.jpgPeterson's Irish Cask (again) in a Stanwell 232 bent sandblasted brandy bowl briar... I am finding that, just as a tobacco blend requires time to get to understand it, so does a pipe itself. Thus, currently, I am smoking the same weed in every pipe I have. This was a pleasant smoke, but strangely bettered by others, such as my first encounter with it in an unmarked estate Meerschaum prince, or yesterday's, in the Ropp-stemmed unmarked smooth bent briar Dublin mule.

I’m wondering now if I messed up by multiplying each component by .3 instead of .4, or if it even matters. My grasp of math has always been minimal.
Math can be problematic for sure, especially when you are trying to convert the parts for each tobacco so that end up with exactly a pound. I have developed a few tricks to simplify this over time - the type of tricks bartenders use when making drinks for more than one person. Good luck with the blending. It's the best way to learn how tobacco tastes and interacts with other types of tobaccos.

MdP makes a great pipe. You have inspired me to pull out mine as well. Enjoy it!

Semois time, before lunch, in a large Mastro de Paja rusticated dublin. :)
I have to mention here that i think the 2024 version of Semois is not quite as flavorful as the 2022 release. It seems a bit milder, both on the nose and the palate. Still good, but i preferred the former iteration.

2024 Penzance. I don’t believe that Germain’s/Esoterica is doing their tin aging anymore. Their paper doilies aren’t stained brown in any of the current iterations I’ve opened like they should be. This is a good blend that I feel would be better with age. The very mild casing doesn’t overpower the tobaccos in anyway. Overall, I feel like Margate is a better blend that is more to my liking.IMG_1061.jpeg
