Beautiful autumn morning up in the Purcell Mountains and I am smoking Hh BF & ODf in a 1969 253 root briar billiard while enjoying a mug of dark french roast.

It would appear that fall has officially arrived here as we receive some welcome rain and colder temperatures. Supposed to get down to 30 overnight. I’ve been busy, ensuring everything is winterized around the Homestead. Decided to get out the official cold-weather, smoking jacket, the Carhart. I’m sitting on the front porch, enjoying a wonderful cup of Russian caravan tea and some ‘21 Newminster 400 in a Briarworks 10th anniversary Zulu.

I’ve bought two Charatans from them. Neither had a coating.
Good to know. I was just curious, because some of their estates look coated and some do not. You were the target of my question because I know you what’s what when it comes to estates. Thanks!

If mine is coated, and if the coating is good, I won’t be disappointed. The water glass/charcoal coating George Dibos demonstrates on YouTube looks like a good way to keep a pipe smoking in spite of previous damage.

The angle of the first photo made it look like your stem was rotated 90 degrees. I was expecting the second photo to show you demonstrating a new smoking technique. I have seen pipes smoked upside down, but “side saddle” would have been a new one on me.

Half way through this bowl of pre-2014 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Just fed all the ferals except for the absent Abner he Eager. Ice water and bergs is my drink.
