For the foreseeable future my cellar belongs exclusively to the Robert McConnell Heritage line — and I see no reason to change that any time soon. If anyone has truly managed to carry forward the legacy of the old Dunhill blends, it is McConnell (Kohlhase & Kopp preserved the original recipes and production standards). This evening in a Mario Pascucci -P Rust-2127 (horn ring) — Heritage Ready Rubbed. A classic ready-rubbed broken flake, medium ribbon cut, requiring no additional rubbing out.
Composition: ripe Virginia (≈60–70 %, grassy-sweet from Carolina and Zimbabwe) and a touch of African Burley for nutty depth and balance. Tin note: a gentle vinegary fermentation that quickly opens into hay, earth and dried fruit.
Burns cool and even, no tongue bite, room note of a pleasant campfire with meadow grass. The perfect all-day smoke and an excellent palate cleanser before heavier English mixtures. In my view, McConnell did not merely copy the old Dunhill Ready Rubbed — they refined and evolved it: more affordable, consistently available, and in some ways even more refined and versatile than the original.

If the ferals allow it, my last smoke of the day will be year 2020 Angler's Dream in a 1984 Stanwell Antique 124 egg with a smooth brown front and a black sandblasted back with a dark gold ferrule and black vulcanite stem in the military mount style. Daisy the Feral Princess ate and has stayed in so far. Harry the Hairy ate and ran. Didn't see Tomato the Brave when I was outside. Norton the Nosey wants more food so I'll do that as soon as I post this smoke.

Good morning! Hope you all who celebrate it had a happy Thanksgiving. I myself did even though I had to cut my stay with my folks short to get back home yesterday to avoid the snow we are currently getting. Sounds like 6-12” by tomorrow. So Im sitting here with a nice bowl of Marlin Flake in a Sav and some coffee. I’ll be shoveling later but for now this is how Im rolling. If any of you live in the upper midwest and have to drive today, go slow and stay safe! IMG_3862.jpeg
