I am not good at sitting around. Doc says don’t do anything to mess up those stitches. I said like what? He said anything that twists or stretches your back. I said like move at all? He said basically, yes. Internal stitches that will take care of themselves eventually. Stitches you can see that will have to be removed. Same old same old. Savinelli Duca Carlo with SWRA in it. Iced tea.

Trying out my first bowl of Black Frigate in the English cob:

The Blockade Runner Virginias definitely make their presence known! I still struggle to describe how they taste, compared to more straightforward Virginia blends. But I enjoyed how all the flavors worked together here, and I'd like to "season" this pipe with a few more bowls to get the full effect. My only complaint was that I needed to clear away the fine ash a few times, and I packed the pipe a little too tight. User errors that I'll be happy to work on.
Having bowl #2 right now, no picture. This time, I broke it apart into small chunks, trying not to rub it out any finer than that. In addition, I more or less gravity filled the pipe. Tasting even better this time around, although it’s needing a few relights.

Part way through this bowl of year 2014 Astley’s No. 44 in a straight smooth brown pre-republic Peterson’s Sterling billiard 260 with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. The cats drank most of the water, and poor Sleepy Suzy put her head on the bowl waiting for refreshment.
