Beautiful scenery, SB. Can't imagine how exciting that must be.

This may be a dumb question, but you mentioned hoping for a cow Elk. Are they preferable to the bulls as far as the meat, size, etc.??
Elk in AZ are a lottery draw, weighted with “bonus points” and you have to select hunt unit and antlered or antlerless when you apply (notice it’s not determined my actual sex here in AZ).
There’s nothing like harvesting a giant bull during the rut, when they’re bugling, fighting, and f….reproducing. But that’s their only focus, and don’t eat, sleep, or take care of themselves-doesn’t lead to the best meat in my opinion. Plus it is a very desirable hunt, so much so that a hunter can put in for years in a good unit (prime units in AZ usually take acquiring many “bonus points” by putting in and not getting drawn for about 8-10yrs) without getting drawn.
Out of rutting season the tags are a bit easier to draw, but the bulls gang up in bachelor herds and recover in the deepest canyons and roughest terrain.
Drawing an antlerless tag is an easier draw, and many feel better meat.
I’ve yet to harvest an elk (just picked up hunting big game a number of years ago when I quit shooting competitively), and I’d love to get a bull on a solo archery hunt, but the freezer’s empty and a cow will do.

Enjoyed a big and tasty golden delicious apple, and am smoking year 2017 Esoterica Dorchester in a straight smooth dark brown octagonal paneled mid-60s-early 70s Corporate Era Barling 4945 London England T.V.F. billiard with a square shank and black tapered square stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo.

Norton the Nosey decided the wall was more comfortable than the pillow. I could make a fortune selling soft walls for cats.

I’m savoring C&D Bluegrass lately, and it’s hands down one of my favorites from Cornell & Diehl. That mix of Bright and Red Virginias, Kentucky Burley, and a dash of Perique hits all the right notes—earthy, spicy, with a warm finish. It’s a solid, no-fuss blend that keeps me coming back.

Just finished smoking year 2014 FVF in a 2002 three quarter bend light brown sandblasted Ardor Urano Fatta A Mano eight sided paneled shaped bulldog sitter with a black acrylic saddle stem. It's been a while since I smoked this pipe. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Fed all the ferals, and only Harry the Hairy stayed in.

Now smoking year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a very much appreciated 1979 brown, slight bend grain etched flat front Stanwell Rego 969-48 (09) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Harry the Hairy got tired of being followed everywhere by Norton the Nosey and wanted out. Nosey is the best name I've come up with for the ferals because he keeps sniffing Harry's tail. Harry hates that.

Ok. Capstan Gold flake in my MM wizard.

First ever tin of the gold flake. It’s from 2021 and it’s fantastic. I have one other tin of the 2021. I’m now wishing I had picked up a few more.

Now, I’m looking for a close match. I guess I’m a straight Virginia or VaPer guy. Any suggestions.

Favorites are now:
Capstan Blue
OGS
Capstan Gold

I also like PS Luxury Navy Flake and Elizabethan mixture
I've not had the Capstans (I gather from your comment they are no longer readily available?). So, I can't compare, but I can tell you, right now I'm really enjoying L J Peretti Ampersand Flake, which is a straight VA. Others, more knowledgeable than I, note it has some sort of topping, and if it does, it is (to me) very light and rather nondescript. I find it extremely pleasant and burns beautifully. Good luck! 😻

Been a While. Lots to report, but wanted to sneak in my morning smoke for Meer Monday. Event update in Skippable Drivel.

IMGP6518opt.JPG

New GIMP distro, not used to it, but it won't take long. I had a delightful morning smoke before leaving for the year's final fishing outing today.

I took have one of these soft Miniature Meers, manufacturer unknown, to me at least. And I like it. Dedicated to Cherries, which I also like. Did a loose 2 pack of Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish. At this point, I've not tried a Borkum Riff tobacco I haven't liked. No exception to this one. Even with my currently sub-standard but greatly improving taste buds, I had simply a great smoke. Stellar tobacco company, methinks. Currently chomping on a Phillies Blunt Chocolate as I type this post. Enjoying the stogie immensely, too.

Skippable Drivel: A lot to report, but give you the skinny here. Thoroughly enjoyed my friends that visited, and others that came aboard for the daily ride, both in the great outdoors and in my livingroom/smoking room.

No break-ins, except for the gift cob which is getting used for Lats, as I said when I posted the pipe. It smokes like any other cob I've ever had. Just great.

Pretty much all my smoking in the last two weeks was done with company, so I simply took whatever pipe I grabbed, and finalized its fodder for my now almost complete pipe rotation.

Each day now, I'll post my morning smoke, then update y'all on the progress of a chosen pipe or two and what it's dedicated or biased for, and it's progress. I no longer own a pipe that I don't enjoy smoking, and as the rotation settles in, I'm enjoying each smoke more and more. Getting a 30+ day rotation is a long task, but I'm getting there, and frankly glad I've gone this route. Also have discovered a half dozen or so new tobaccos via my friends, which I can get, a couple of ones I found on my own, and two new home mixes that have joined the rotation.

See y'all tomorrow with the first installment of my adventures. Oh, by the way, fishing was lousy today. The lakes have all flipped, and the fish are all very much deeper. Ya, we got a few, but had to go to big streamers, heavier rods, and full sink lines, forward taper. Not my thing. There are lots of grouse and rabbits around, so that'll be the ticket until snow and ice put me away in the smoking den until spring.

Cheers and hope you had a great Meer Monday! :col:

Now smoking year 2014 Strang in a 2003 smooth light brown medium bend straight grain Ardor Venere Extra signed by Dorelio Rovera Dublin with a black acrylic saddle stem. Harry the Hairy came back in as Daisy the Feral Princess went out. Norton the Nosey laid by the water bowl and watched Harry nibble. Harry left the kitchen, and laid on a blanket that I put near the back door so he wouldn't be out in the open. He's snoozin' Norton's looking for something to do. Norton did the same thing to Sleepy Suzy earlier, and Suzy didn't like being watched, so she came back to the den, and is by my side.
