Just got a new pipe today, a straight morta bulldog of unknown origin, only marking is a feather stamped on the underside. This pipe has an interesting smooth finish, sort of a knapped, almost faceted quality. Same with the stem, which I believe I can safely say is hand-cut. It is a very lightly used estate, the only way to tell is from the faint Latakia ghost that haunts it. It is very lightweight, so much so that I feel like weighing it later just so see. Excited to load it up with 08 Nightcap. If anyone knows who or what workshop made this pipe, let me know! Comment from the wife: “That looks like a pipe that Sauron would smoke”.View attachment 428987View attachment 428988View attachment 428989
Randy Wiley puts feathers on some of his pipes. It looks like it could be one of his. Good find!

I delved into the DIY world of VaBurs with a blend of Wessex Red VA flake and some well-aged, home-pressed burley cherry plug. It was packed in a recent (2019) Kaywoodie bulldog and left to dry overnight.

It smoked perfectly, only requiring a relight when I played around balancing it on a branch to get the picture below. Winter arrived in Anchorage shortly after my walk. We've about 7" of snow since then.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am not far from finishing this bowl of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a late '80s, early 90s small bend medium brown smooth, unbranded Nording pot with a couple of small rusticated spots, an amber colored acrylic ferrule and tapered stem in the military mount style. Ice water and bergs is my drink. M'lady stayed with Norton the Nosey in the bathroom so he wouldn't feel lonely while Tomato the Brave ate lots of wet food. He went out as soon as he finished. Daisy the Feral Princess ate earlier, and stayed in the warm cat house. Harry the Hairy came in when Tomato went out.

Listing this a few minutes early: year 2022 unreleased Sutliff Brown Virginia Flake in a 1920s medium bend smooth dark brown BBB Umbra bulldog with a tapered black vulcanite stem with an orific bit. Earlier today, I took a shower and Norton the Nosey jumped in, licked up some water, got wet, and jumped out when the water spray hit him. He did the same to m’lady. Dunno what it is about that cat and showers, but it’s surprising as cats generally avoid getting wet.

1 of our cats occasionally likes to sit between the shower curtains and watch me. She also likes to drink out of the toilet after I flush.

Did a little low calorie snacking, and am smoking Wilke No. 515 in a smooth dark medium bend 2021 Peterson Heritage Brown POTY 4AB No. 45/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. This was the original 515 that Basil Rathbone smoked, and the model that he smoked it in. Harry the Hairy is lying on a blanket near the back door so he can avoid Norton the Nosey. Norton is lying on m'lady's chair. Sleepy Suzy is by my side.

Enjoyed a tasty Snap Dragon apple, and have a quarter of a bowl left of first production Watch City American Cut Plug Mixture in a straight smooth brown Algerian briar family era Barling’s Make Billiard 6 with a tapered black vulcanite stem. The stampings suggest 1930s, but the “6” is a previously unknown stamp number as is its placement. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. Daisy the Feral Princess and Tomato the Brave came in for their wet food, and ate well. Harry the Hairy was already inside and drank a lot of water while Tomato was waiting for him to leave the kitchen. He got tired of waiting, and started eating. Then, Harry came up to me, laid down and put his belly in the air for a rub. After Tomato ate, he went out. Daisy has stayed in. M'lady couldn't sleep so she stayed with Norton the Nosey in the bathroom so he wouldn't bug D&T. Once he got out of there, he came to me, stretched out on the floor, and made biscuits on my left foot. He's on m'lady's chair now. Sleepy Suzy is by my side.

Last smoke of the day is Wilke Back Bay w/o perique in a straight black sandblasted 1924 Parker’s Super Briar Bark 11 billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. This pipe was made in the second year of Parker production. Reading while this bowl lasts.
