I'm kicking myself for not buying at least a basket pipe when I was at JJ Fox in Sept.Gawith Sams Flake from 2019 in the Barling Straight Grain (3639) from James J Fox & Co (London).

That's the way to do it, man. Try it, taste it, consider it. I'm finding that A LOT of the blends that I found to be 'meh' at first taste have really come alive after being put aside for a few months (in the tin or jar). On the other hand, some that knock my socks off with first bowl from a new tin...i find with some age aren't as dynamite for me if left in the tin (will start jarring these asap when i come across them).Neglected to take a photo, but I've been trying to develop a taste for C&D Three Friars, most recently with a bowl from a Dutch Amphora pipe I snagged on eBay. I certainly get the grassiness from the Virginia, but the burley notes have been lost on me.
Not an unpleasant tobacco and a welcome change from my usual English blends, but a bit underwhelming. I'm aging a tin of Irish Flake that I'm hoping I like a bit more.
