Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and green beans dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm passing the first third of this bowl of aged Rattrays Hal O’ The Wynd in a straight smooth brown pre-WWII (Comoy’s) Corinthian De-Luxe 126 pot made for Sutliff in San Francisco with a black tapered vulcanite stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.

Our friend, John, is visiting to watch the UFC 295 PPV. I’m going to start off the Early Prelims with Cult Blood Red Moon in one of my earliest Eugène-Léon Ropp pipes, a Cherrywood with a Natural Horn Stem. It’s stamped “Bussang,” so, it’s very likely it was made at Ropp’s original workshop there between 1870–1893.

There’s a natural notch on the right side—I believe this piece of wood was selected so that the smoker’s right index finger fits in that groove for a perfect grip; there’s a natural notch at the back for the right thumb as well. I normally hold pipes in my left hand (I’m a lefty), but, I switch to my right with this pipe because it fits a righty grip so comfortably.

I finished smoking the Ropp—I got a little over three hours and ten minutes out of it and we’re now into the regular Prelims—the Main Card starts shortly, in less than half an hour. As I’ve mentioned previously, the UFC mixed martial arts matches take place in an octagon shaped ring. That makes the Savinelli Ottagono Due a thematically perfect pipe to smoke when watching UFC fights. Our friend, John, was born in 1976 and I was born in 1963. As luck would have it, Smoking Pipes had numbers 76/600 and 63/600 available for sale and I was able to snag both when the pipes first dropped. We gave John his pipe for his birthday to him in September.

I’m having Savinelli Brunello Flake in my Savinelli Ottagono Due Sandblasted, Eight-sided, Paneled Dublin (number 63/600). John is also going to have Brunello Flake in his Ottagono Due (number 76/600) while we watch the UFC regular Prelims.

The next pipe in the lineup is a cased 1914 Barling straight billiard with army mount amber stem with an orific bit

A bowl of STG produced Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls, the stablemate to the previous Escudo.
The Peterson rolls have a circumferential circlet of bright leaf in contrast to the uniform discs of Escudo

Such a warm day.
A tall drink of Campari with lots of ice, slice of Tahitian lime and topped with FeverTree pink grapefruit tonic

We’re into the Main Card of UFC 295 now. I’m having Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel Aged in a Briar, Sweat, and Tears (BST) Large Curve (LC) 3/4 Bent Billiard, which is becoming one of my “go to” pipes for smoking while watching UFC fights given its long smoking time (I might get a three or four plus hour smoke out of this based on its track record thus far).
