I pulled a 2019 tin of Solani Aged Burley Flake out of my stash this evening, smoked in a Savinelli 673 Porto Cervo. The tin note was closer to an aged red Virginia than burley, with strong vinegar and fruit notes and just a hint of cocoa. I rubbed a flake and let it dry for maybe half an hour (definitely needs more drying time than that, a note for future smokes).
The first half of the bowl tasted and smelled more like Virginia than burley. Strong bread and fruit notes, with some nuttiness and chocolate peeking out from the background. Second half of the bowl was pure, classic burley flavor. It smoked very cool and burned slow, but it was too moist and left a bit of dottle and moisture at the end. An unforced error on my part; I'll probably dry the next bowl out for a couple of hours before smoking again, because I hate to waste a shred of this one.
The nicotine level in other reviews is stated as "medium", but I smoked on an empty stomach and had waves of nicotine euphoria coming and going. Meditative, but not "peer through the veil" strong.
Highly enjoyable. I'm curious if the newer version of the blend is comparable, because I'd like to have a few more tins of this one.
