My second pipe of the day. Old Toby in an Anthony Rosenthal Freehand Haha! This was the first pipe I ever carved, back when you could choose a briar block from Vermont Freehand and have them drill it for you. I didn't have the tools for that living in a tiny apartment, so this was perfect. All I had were some hand tools. I carved and shaped this entirely by hand with a wood rasp, files, and lots of sandpaper. Briar is hard. It took forever! But it was so worth it.1000000559.jpg1000000560.jpg

Now smoking year 2012 Esoterica Dunbar in a smooth straight, dark brown early 1960s Lane era Charatan Selected 43 Dublin with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. This pipe was formerly owned by actor William Conrad. Tomato the Brave has spent the last hour and a half by my side demanding attention and snoozin' by turns. Abner the Eager has been on m'lady's lap for quite a while. Daisy the Feral Princess is still snoozin' by my feet. When I went to get the mail, Harry the Hairy ran to me from the back yard, and then followed me to the mail box. Right before I got there, Harry jumped in front of me, and laid on the ground with his belly in the air. I gave him some attention, and Harry proceeded to follow me to the back door. I let him in eat, and he's been snoozin' since then.

First taste of Hal O’ The Wynd in a GBD Stacked Dublin

IMG_8229.jpeg

It’s 45 and breezy, so the initial light was all it took to get it going. Old Gowrie is nice, but I have a feeling that I’ll be cellaring a lot more of Hal.

Meantime, the weather guessers say that we’re supposed to have 16” of snow on Wednesday, so I’m enjoying the weather while it lasts.

Sutliff 507-C loaded up in the Barontini 1/2 Spigot bent billiard with 9mm filter (20mmx52mm chamber). This was a most of the day smoke for me. Part of proof of my childhood was taken away today. My neighbor had three huge Silver Beech trees, 80-110 ft tall, cut down today as they were in danger of falling down on his house. One of those trees had a heart carved into it with my initials and the initials of the girl who lived there previously who used to babysit me in the afternoons after she got out of school. My neighbor told me it was still there but about 30 feet or more higher. I carved it when I was about 4 or 5 yrs old believe it or not. Still .... a pleasant memory.

Cool, grey and light showers off and on this morning so I've grabbed some Ennerdale Flake and my Pete for this smoke.

I thought you had administered justice to that varmint from a 375 but not to be.
I have that option and If I had horses or Cattle would’ve used it.
Someone in a Buick probably saved me a piece of brass for the loading press😂 at least now I know what’s been in the wifes’s roses. I assumed the deer.
