Cult Blood Red Moon in my most beautiful pipe, a Marxman “Big Boy” Straight Grain Rhodesian Chubby.

Bob Marx produced some of the gnarliest pipes for rugged outdoor men of action and also could produce a pipe equaling the beauty and refinement of any in the world.

There is not a fill, ripple or flaw in this jumbo sized masterpiece, and it’s colored to oxblood in less than a dozen smokes. It was unsmoked until I got ahold of it, and no I don’t oil or steel wool this grade.:)

The straight grain stamped pipes were not advertised in magazines or in the catalogs I’ve ever seen.

These were truly special productions.

I wonder exactly how these specials were born? As I understand the process, a very large plateaux with perfect straight is rare, and then one that can be finished and not have a tiny blemish or flaw even more rare.

They just barely struck it with the STRAIGHT GRAIN stamp.

Wonder who they blessed with this?

Stunning pipe, but your toes….😜.
So the emoji I used is not the ideal expression for a grown ass man to tell another man he is joking. However, without tone or facial expressions to tell you I’m joking, I must remove all doubt about my intent with something.

Good day all! Started with a tryout of GL Pease Samarra in two Upshalls, one with a 15/16" bore and the second with a 7/8" bore because Virginias were listed as forefront. The more narrow bore seems to pick up the Virginias a bit more, the larger gives a bit more voice to the Latakia. Either way, a very nice blend.
