Don't know whether to call this a late night smoke, or an early morning smoke, cuz it's now 12:17 AM, I've finished my day early, and figured I'd check in before trial week, which I'll explain after I explain the picture below in today's episode, entitled Explainable Drivel, for sake of variety.
I'm currently smoking one of the little suckers shown in the quickly shot picture of my cigarette making machine, which I haven't shown for quite a while.
Explainable Drivel: My current smoke is the tobacco I'm currently working on, Savinelli 140, fed into the machine and stuffed into a hemp tube and smoked (after stuffing the end into a not shown used Colt Whiskey Cigar Tip) for a more controlled draw on the cigarette itself. Like this excellent tobacco in a pipe, it must be smoked very slowly or you'll miss the whole point of the various and complex flavours in the blend, especially in a cigar-like format, as it gets a little harsher towards the end like a cigar, unless treated wtih kid gloves, taking in a little air into the mix in your mouth. The tip helps greatly in this regard.
These home rollies take almost exactly the same amount of tobacco as a miniature cob or McQueen miniature, and if smoked correctly, get about the same time. I just finished this rollie and got 22 minutes out of it. about par for my experience with Sav 140 in the pipsqueak pipes. And it was just as flavourful. So that's my evening/morning smoke. A dandy little one.
More Important Drivel: As most of you are aware, I have a fairly painful and large hernia, so my doctor has accelerated the cutting process. I begin tomorrow (whoops! it's now today . . . .) with the pre-operation interview by phone at some unspecified time (o joy, o rapture) between 10:00 AM and 3:30 PM. He's a family friend who operated on my Dad's heart irregularities when he was 76, so I'm in good hands. The best available, in fact.
On Wednesday I have the pre-operation interview in which I decide the spinal or general injection (I've already decided on the spinal after consulting other friends, the maestro with the scalpal, and doing some research) and a final scan to give him the current picture, and the following Monday (June 9) of next week I get the deed done.
I'm a bit apprehensive, of course, but not expecting anything out of the ordinary, but I'll not be on the forum much until a few days after the operation, and plan on doing a bunch of other tasks and quite a bit of shooting and other fun things before then. Hoping I don't drown in Frost, Davie, Grizzly or some other hot midge lake in the meantime, and thank you all in advance for your prayers and well wishes, some of which I've already received.
