C&D Virginia Flake in an old Peterson.
This is a pipe I received from an old timer on the old Smokers Forum in about 2008 or so.
He had told me that the pipe was from 1936.
I had no idea how he knew that because Peterson pipes are difficult to date. Pretty easy to find the Era, but near impossible to find an exact date.
When I inquired about this, he said he talked to the "experts" who narrowed it to 1935 to 1940. He was born in 1936, so, that was the date of this pipe.
Im kind of a fan of a pipes history, so I began my own research.
NONE of the internet sites had much info.
Pipephil and writings by Loring gave the same dates of 1935-1940.....most likely.
The nomenclature on this pipe is VERY faint, but legible with a flashlight and loop. I very rarely clean this pipe on the outside due to this. I am hoping that eventually someone will have more information. Here is what gives everyone fits.......the nomenclature.
One side has. LONDON MADE
ENGLAND
The other side has. Petersons
LONDON&DUBLIN
To the left of...... LONDON MADE there is 120P
First of all, London & Dublin is odd, usually its the other way.....Dublin &London.
Then the 120P was "never" used......apparently.
120F was used pre-Republic on this shape, a Dublin, with a flat stem, this pipe has a round stem.
The only guess from the "experts" was that the P might mean P-lip.
Who knows. I should have put this in a new thread, but......
