Did a set of walking reps, and am close to finishing this bowl of KBV Fore Glory! (Golf Series) in a quarter bent black 2022 Hanseatic Bog Oak apple with a light brown accent on the black vulcanite saddle stem. First time smoking this pipe as I work on a review of this blend, which goes on sale this Saturday. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

A third of the way through this bowl of year 2012 Rolando’s Own in a smooth straight early ‘60s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem.

Mr. Conrad and author Richard Carleton Hacker were friends. Perhaps the latter might be able to explain the reason for the cuts in this pipe.
Charatan did that to a lot of pipes, including this one that I own:

I always thought it was done to remove blemishes, sand pits, etc., that they found in the final stages of production in order to avoid throwing an otherwise good pipe into the trash.
